RULE OF LAW

First, rule of law is a regulator of government power. Second, rule of law means equality before law. Third, rule of law means procedural and formal justice. The rules of law in the western tradition provide social and political order. I know that on occasions in our past some of our elected officials decided which laws they would obey. This is called, “rule of person”. The common feature of rule of person is the attitude that "what pleases the ruler(s) is law." That is, under rule of person, there is no limit to what the rulers (the government) can do and how they do things.

On August 20th 2007 the Legislative body of Benton County Tennessee passed a law calling for a public hearing within 30 days. In addition, a notice is to be placed in the newspaper. So I ask that everyone look for the notice in today’s newspaper. We know that our Mayor would not subvert the will of the people, but Mr. Mayor, time is running out.
